Steeves' Summary #15: God our Provider       May 2005

"Look at the birds of the air: they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father  feeds them.  Are you not much valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life?" Matthew 6: 26-27

For several months, I've been worried about renting our home.  I've never dealt with renting a house before, so I had no idea what it demanded.  We placed an advertisement about our home in the newspaper.  Phone calls started trickling in immediately.  The first family that came to see the house seem to fit all of the criteria. After talking to about 15 families and showing it nine times, we offered it the first family  They are looking forward to having a yard for their children!

I have also been concerned about the 35 boxes of blankets in our basement. To our relief, these blankets have already arrived at the AIM office in New York. They will be put in a container bound for Nairobi after we are there to receive them.

On Victoria Day, Dad and I drove the blankets to Maine in a rented truck.  When I spoke to a US customs officer from Calais that morning, he was understanding yet guarded.  He thought they could find a way for the blankets to get across duty-free. We showed up, and after a short discussion and an examination of the letters from AIM Canada and the AIM US office, we were told to put them down as "used household goods." The papers were stamped and we were told to be on our way.  The whole process at the border took all of 10 minutes. Thanks for all your prayers as we crossed the US border. Before long, we found ourselves backing the truck out of the rain into the UPS garage in Calais and  moving all of the boxes for third time that day.  Dad was pleased that he wouldn't have to see them again!  By the time I see them again in Kenya I think I'll be able to move my arms again.

The big things are out of the way but there are lots of details left.  We have to pack up our house, decide what we are taking and leaving behind.  We have two speaking engagements left,  both of which are places where we have shared before.  As much as we have appreciated the opportunity to share at churches regarding missions, we are glad to be entering  into a new phase of preparation.  August 2nd is only a few weeks away!

Financial update:  We are at 94% of our required support.  God is providing once again !

Blessings,

Michael, Bernadine, Julianne and Evan
