For
about 8 years,
we have had a website telling some stories of Kenya along with some
photos. We occasionally receive email from people saying how
much they appreciate a preview of Kenya and Kijabe. The site
gets over 200 visitors per day and we've wondered what people are
getting from it. A few weeks ago, we noticed that the missions
bulletin board in our church had been redone with some information on
ministries in Kenya. Half of the photos on it were from our
website! Mike found who had put it together and asked if he
knew that he'd used our photos. He said, "No I didn't, I
got them from the Baptist Convention office!" We wonder
how many other places have used the photos to give people an
idea of what Kenya is like, and what God is doing there.
Bernadine
received another call that some blankets were coming to Saint John for
our project. Elizabeth was coming from Arthurette, a small
village located 300 km away. Bernadine met her at the hospital.
Thankfully, it wasn't too difficult to find
the lady holding the quilt. When they went out to the parking lot to
transfer several bags of blankets between cars in the pouring rain,
they found themselves parked in adjacent spaces in a parking lot
among hundreds of cars. Elizabeth was amazed and confidently
stated, "Only God could have worked this one out so perfectly!”
One
Tuesday evening of every month, Bernadine attends a missions
group. Every Tuesday night, Michael and Evan go to "Tree
Climbers", a Christian Service Brigade program for young boys
and their fathers. Last week we realized that we hadn't
arranged anyone to babysit Julianne. When Bernadine finished
talking to our regular sitter to confirm that she wasn't available,
the phone rang. It was Julianne's friend calling, wondering if
Julianne could go to her house for a few hours.
One
of the most amazing miracles we have seen since our preparation for
Kenya is the response to the Homemade Blankets for Kenya
project. We have received 500 blankets and quilts from across
Canada and various parts of the United States. We expect the number
of blankets to at least double by the end of May. By speaking to the
blanket makers, I realize they too are experiencing
life's little miracles and blessings through the blanket
project. We were touched by the Pioneer Girls from Sussex United
Baptist Church who sent us some photos of them and the quilts they made.We see God's hand daily, yet it does take a lot more trust to believe God will work out a bigger miracle in our lives.
We
have 23% of our monthly support and have more than
half of our outgoing funds. We need at least 85% of our monthly support
pledged by the first of July in order to purchase our plane tickets.
This will allow us to get to Kenya in time for orientation before the
school year begins. We need a miracle.
Thanks
to all who are supporting us with our Kenya mission.
Blessings,
