Steeves'
Summary Volume 2 #4: In the Fog
July 2009

Vacation time! At the beginning of July we had the opportunity to visit Grand Manan, an
island in
the Bay of Fundy. Like most of this part of the world, it has
been a damp, cool June. Around the Bay of Fundy, that means
fog.
For much of our time we were on the island we couldn't see much
unless it was very close. We didn't let the fog slow us down
us as we
explored the island, experiencing the beaches and cliffs. We took
a
ferry trip to White Head Island, an even smaller island.
Foghorns on the ferries and by lighthouses were our constant
companions. My parents came with us, their first time to the
island. The fog didn't stand in the way of these seasoned travellers
either. On Sunday we were
able to speak at North Head Baptist Church on the island. It
was
a real joy to find that we had so many connections with people
there. We found people with mutual friends, parents of friends, and
others whom Bernadine met five years prior on an earlier visit to the
church. On our last two days the fog lifted and we were able
to see places like "hole in the wall", "seven days work" and South West
Head.
Our
journey towards Kenya reminds
us a bit of our trip to Grand Manan. As we pursue a return to
Kenya, sometimes we feel like we are
surrounded by a thick fog. We have so little information on how God
will provide for us to be able to continue our work in Kenya.
Some people have sent us one-time donations, but we have
received very few pledges for monthly support. Thank you for those who have supported us so far. We know we
need to continue towards our goal of going on our missionary journey,
regardless on how insecure and discouraged we feel at times. We need your continued prayers.
Feed My Lambs:
Bernadine writes--- Before we even knew we were planning to head back
to Kenya, Joan Murphy's ladies Bible study group were determined they
would raise money for Kenyans during the drought. Some of the ladies
insisted on having a coffee house last April, while others wanted to
have a yard sale in June. The ladies had both. Many devoted “yard
sailors” came despite the pouring rain. Thank goodness for Faye's double
garage! Not only were funds raised for Feed My Lambs, but we were freed
of some unwanted items, gained some new-to-us items, and helped some
African refugees.
Similar to the coffee house becoming more than a coffee house, the yard
sale became more than a yard sale. It was great to work alongside this
group of women once again, so generous and giving.
“Your
word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.”

119:105
